the main purposes of music video's are to promote sales of the song and to make record company's more profit. 

what other purposes might there be of a music video?

other purposes of music video's are purely made for entertainment, the more people are entertained the more views the show will have and the more hits the song will receive.

 how might an artist extend their income through having a music video?

near enough all music videos have a promotion along the line this could be fashion and style(pixie lott), jewellery (one direction), perfumes (Britney spears), eye lashes (girls aloud) also nails (little mix) and books and biography's, they are items put out for people to want and buy. 

 

 

 

But selling products is not the only way music videos extend income, internet has become the main income as the young generation of today are now always using the internet to get their music . they use websites such as Youtube, I tunes, I tube, Spottify, Tubidy, Vimeo, last FM, Capital and Kiss 100 but also youtube converter, there are many more but these are the most popular sites for music and the best way to make money, if you think how many people are in the world and how many use the internet for music imagine how much they make a day.

describe how and why music videos have been used to fill in for bands on tour or when otherwise invaluable?

 its main purpose is used for a cover up, so if a band cant make it there will still be something on show for the crowd to watch, this way they won't loose viewers and the show can still go on. 

Thinking back through history and presently... How have music videos enabled an 'extension of outlets' (opened up ways to get music to the masses?) 

The first music videos shot and made we're only able in black and white as coloured filming and tv's were not yet made, they also didn't have the equipment we have today, for example we can take cameras place to place and film with good quality were as back in the day the camera where too heaven to take it and carry around so this cause them short use of scenery. Most music films were shot in a studio and now we can shoot anywhere today. Now days we have colour music videos better caulity in the outcome and better use of set and ideas for the video due to better equipment.
